Movie Review

The wild flowers of Singaghad

Devi: It was an overcast day when we set out for 'singaghad' - a fort situated near Pune. Crossing the Kadakvasala lake, enjoying the mild climate and the pleasant breeze, we reached the foot of the hill. After asking around for directions, we set-out to climb the steep winding road .. it was scary looking down from the bike.

Atlast we reached the top, a flat parking space surrounded by various dabhas. It was a relief to be back on feet .. and carrying the camera we started climbing the stone steps. I looked around and found some very pretty pink flowers blooming among the moss on a overhanging rock. There was a small pond beneath it , reflecting the flowers and the blue sky. To our great surprise, the hill was dotted by banana trees growing out of hard rocks and steep inclines. Even the flowers of the tree had blossomed out, something one never finds in the cultivated lands! (The snaps did amaze a few people back in our native! :)

There on the flattened top of the hill, there was another pond surrounded by small white flowers, similar to 'snowdrops' (a wild flower famous in Europe) and the yellow ones. With greenary all around, singaghad is a great place for a one day picnic in the rainy season.

When we think back , it is the pretty flowers and  the taste of thick white curd served in small mud pots that that I remember about singaghad ..

Zubeida

Devi & Vetri: It was a Sunday a.k.a nothing-gets-done-on-time day. After vacillating between lots of possibilities, we decided on visiting the bakery 'Hot Breads' which has advertised its last day of 'Pastry Festival'. Checked out the place - nice ambience with a wall made of mirror. Vetri remembered the time when one of his friends crashed into a mirror in a shop thinking there was a room on the other side!. We selected one piece of everything that looked unusual <nice rule of the thumb to go by when you have no idea about what to select :) > , got it packed and were on the road again when the idea struck .. to go watch Zubeida. The film promos have made us curious about the story.

It is about a girl 'Zubieda' who grows up in a sheltered family with a patriarchial father. Amrish Puri has given a good performance of a family man with my-ego-needs-pampering-at-any-cost attitude. Zubeida is married and divorced at her father's will. Enter Manoj Bajpai, the aristrocrat with a family. Zubeida falls in love , marries him and tries her best to get used to palace-living and blue-bloods. blah - blah ..blah.

It is worth watching the movie just to see all the feelings expressed in glances and facial expressions of Karishma and Rekha - classic !

Devi: One of the things I enjoy doing is to sit by the window on a rainy day, listening to the patter of raindrops and capturing the thoughts that flit through the mind with a pencil. The words reflect a myriad of feelings -some happy, some sad, some philosophical. Life according to me is not about reaching a destination, but it is about being given an opportunity to learn. Hope you would find an echo of your feelings in these words.

Armour

Oh, the defenses that we build--to shut out pain;
in the name of protection!

Hurt by rude words--we cultivate cool facades, icy smiles
and upturned noses; and snub friendly overtures on birth!

Having known betrayal--we believe trust is for fools;
and charge everyone as guilty unless otherwise proved;
and lose the bonds of trust that no amount of regret can resurrect!

Open hearts result in broken hearts--so we build a heavy
duty wall around it without a single chink; that
happiness becomes mythical!

Oh, the day when we needed, wanted to be different & carefree
to reach out to humanity--we couldn't--for the weight
of those armors have made mobility impossible!

And the world, is lost forever behind these facades!
